At age 44, John lives with his mother Bettye (74) who has had some struggles with cancer in the past. John is very excited to come to Washington House to live with other guys. (He’s been asking for a long time when he will get to move in!) John has attended STARS for five years and has developmental disabilities due to Williams Syndrome, but that doesn’t keep him from being very active. He works at Goodwill three hours a week, at the STARS Resale store twice a week, cleans a church twice a month, and washes cars in the summer. For recreation, he enjoys "Rec and Roll" and STARS.

John’s best friends are STARS Gary and David and helper Bob Lefley, but he has lots of other friends too. John is a very friendly and outgoing guy and likes socializing and getting to know people. He always has a smile for you. He enjoys visiting friends and family in California where he used to live.

John is a big sports fan with a special interest in football. His favorite magazine is Athlon Pro Football Magazine which helps him keep up with everything football such as where players have been traded. He loves watching all sports, but for himself, he enjoys swimming and riding his ATV (All Terrain Vehicle). One of John’s "dreams" is to win the Lotto (which would be difficult since he never plays) so that he can buy a Yamaha TTR110 dirt bike with a trailer to take the bike out to the countryside to ride!

John loves to visit the local fire departments, so it is no wonder that his favorite movie is Backdraft which is a story is about firefighters in Chicago on the trail of a serial arsonist. On the lighter side, the Wizard of Oz also ranks as one of his favorites. Music is high on John’s priority list and he has many favorite songs which span different genres from "Amazing Grace" to "I Want to Rock and Roll All Night". John may be a budding chef since he loved cooking during the "practice week" at Washington House as well as just hangin’ out and having fun with the guys.

John loves Jesus very much and was baptized recently at College Church to demonstrate his faith. He also enjoys devotions in the evening and wants to continue growing in his faith at church, at STARS, and at home.
